For the next three years, VINCI Energies will support Repair Café International. Thanks to this support, the teaching package ‘Repair Café in the classroom’ can be translated into ten languages. This teaching package is currently only available in Dutch.

VINCI Energies is an international technology company that focuses on networking and integration, performance optimisation, energy efficiency, and data. All this to accelerate the rollout of new technologies and to support two important changes: the digital transformation and the energy transition.

Challenge
According to Jos Boers, CEO of VINCI Energies Netherlands, careful and sustainable use of raw materials is one of the challenges of our time. “The Repair Café teaching pack in the classroom helps children to become aware of this and at the same time teach them how to repair broken objects themselves. Volunteers from the local Repair Cafés work with primary schools to give these lessons. A great way to pass on and retain repair knowledge for the future.”

Inquisitive attitude
Martine Postma, director of Repair Café International, is happy with the support. “VINCI Energies understands like no other how important it is to preserve this kind of knowledge. And that young people develop an inquisitive attitude. For many children, it’s no longer self-evident to fix a flat bicycle tyre, repair their backpacks or take apart an alarm clock. During the Repair Café lessons, they see how much fun this is. Thanks to the support of VINCI Energies, we can now spread these lessons worldwide, great!”

Also want to make repairs in the classroom?
Many Dutch Repair Cafés have already started working with primary schools in their neighbourhood. Want to try too? This year, the teaching package ‘Repair Café in the classroom’ will become available in English via our webshop. We’ll keep you up to date!
