Thank you to everyone who took part in our global survey of Repair Cafés at the end of last year. The survey had an exceptionally high response rate: around 22,4% of all invited Repair Cafés completed the extensive questionnaire. This shows your great commitment to our movement!
The researchers counted 512 English, 221 German and 213 French responses. They will be busy processing this rich information in the coming period. Hopefully they will be able to share the first results with us this spring.
A collaboration between the university and Repair Café
This research is being conducted by Beth Quinton and Peter Counter, PhD students at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham (UK). The survey is supervised by Professor Martin Charter, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Design at the UCA, and Joanna van der Zanden, Chair of the Repair Café International foundation. If you have any questions, please contact the researchers at [email protected]

I have been to 3 Repair Cafes. 2 in Los Angeles/Echo Park neighborhood.
Long lines outside and inside. Waiting for hours. Only ONE jewelry craftsperson to assist and repair. Nice guy. However, spent way too much time on a ONE piece of complicated jewelry repair than he should have. Talking to person while everyone else is waiting. And the ONLY jewelry person in Pasadena didn’t show up.
While I think this is a great service to offer residents. It needs better organization.
1) More of Repair Cafes in Los Angeles. And more than once in a while.
2) More jewelry craftsperson’s willing to donate their time so EVERYONE who is waiting outside gets INSIDE and has their ITEM repair in a reasonable time frame.
3) Should be advertised in all media outlets including Nextdoor. Not just on Instagram.
