Repair Café International has gained a new partner: Euronics Group. This is the largest European umbrella organisation for electronics shops. Euronics will be working with us to promote repair. Euronics Group has members in many countries.

‘At Euronics, we believe that repair is an essential part of a sustainable future. With our extensive network of local shops and professional repairers, we can make a concrete contribution to the initiatives of Repair Cafés in many countries,’ says John Olsen, CEO of Euronics International. ‘The collaboration with Repair Café International fits in perfectly with our ambition: together we make repair more accessible, share knowledge and encourage a repair culture in local communities, throughout Europe and beyond.’

Sharing repair skills with Repair Cafés

The partnership consists of several components. For example, Euronics encourages its members to support Repair Cafés in their town or village, for example with knowledge, space, tools or the deployment of staff. Euronics also wants to give special projects of Repair Café International a boost and there are plans to share knowledge with the Repair Cafés on a larger scale. In many cases, Euronics members employ their own repairers, whose knowledge can be very valuable to Repair Café repairers. Euronics will support Repair Café International with a donation for three years.

The timing of this new partnership is perfect. In 2026, national laws will come into force in all EU member states to guarantee the right to repair. These laws are an implementation of the European Right to Repair Directive, which was adopted in 2024.

Retailers important in implementing the right to repair

‘Retailers play an important role in implementing the right to repair,’ says Martine Postma of Repair Café International. ‘They need to inform their customers about repair options and, ideally, help them in other ways to maintain and repair their things.’

Martine is pleased with the partnership. ‘This shows that Euronics considers repair to be important. The organisation wants to take the lead in promoting repair, not only in Europe but also in other parts of the world. That’s good news, because much more repair work needs to be done worldwide, and much more often.’
